Q - Stephen, how has owning the Tactile Sound Table changed things for you?

A - I find the sound table to be very synergistic with the sound and energy healing work that we do. The table has greatly enhanced our energy work sessions. The table is also used on its own as a healing tool utilizing both music and frequency cds.

Originally, I built my first table with two things in mind – using it with the energy work and as a meditation and creativity tool. With the proper choice of music, I have found the tables to be a blessing in both regards.

When I started doing trades with massage therapists, I discovered how the table enhanced the massage for myself, as well as easing the process for the massage therapist.

When I met my wife, we found that the pain from the muscle contractions as a result of her Dystonia was greatly eased also. The use of music and Olav Skille’s Frequencies have played a large part in this.

Q - Stephen, what type of bodywork / modalities do you do and how does the sound table help you do that work?

A - I have been working with sound as an alternative healing modality since 1987. I was introduced to sound by using tuning forks on and around the body, which I still practice and teach. I’ve added toning, chanting, and the use of the Tactile Sound Table with different music and Olav Skille’s low frequencies. I also use different forms of energetic work with the chakras, personal grid system and external grid systems.

The sound table allows the client to relax deeper and faster, allowing the energy work greater accessibility and ease in clearing. One of the results being reducing the number of sessions required to achieve the desired outcome.

Q - What kind of setup do you have with your table in your treatment room?

A - We have a small Soundcraft sound board that allows us to use a CD player, a computer, and a microphone as sources for the sound in the table. This allows us to mix sound from different sources which we can run through the table at the same time. We also have a stereo system set up with the speakers mounted high on the walls and centered on the head of the table. The full spectrum of sound floats down upon the client while the table delivers both sound and vibration from under the client. It is as if there is a loving cocoon of sound. We also incorporate the use of crystal grids, sacred geometric copper forms, energetic art, color and essential oil blends to sculpt the energy of our "Dolphin Oasis" healing room.

Q - What music do you like to use?

A - We try a lot of different music and have found that there is a lot of it that works really well in the table. Lately, we have used “Zen Breakfast” by Karunesh and really enjoy it. It is quite relaxing and excellent for massage. We have also recently used harp music from Sally Fletcher and Pamela Bruner. Both are excellent and work very well in the table. Others that we often use include: Shapeshifter’s cds, Therasound’s cds, Brian E. Paulson’s cds and Chuck Wild’s Liquid Mind series. We have also found that the table works very well in conjunction with various Bioacoustics programs.

Q - Have you found that the sound table has helped to increase your Client base?

A - Yes, folks travel from around the world for sessions with my wife and I. I am so ever thankful that the sound tables are in my life.

Q - Stephen, is there anything else you would like to share with us?

A - I am presently working on a book that deals with the different uses of the Tactile Sound Massage Tables. We are looking forward to having our first workshop on the use of the tables later this year also.

    Tactile Sound Massage Table

Vibroacoustic Therapy and Its Effect on Various Populations - Part 4

Introduction: The first experiences with VAT, as we know it today, were carried out in 1980 when I was working as headmaster of a school for multiply handicapped, mentally retarded children. 1987 - 1990 I ran a clinic which offered VAT to clients who came to the clinic because of various complaints, some of them were referred to VAT by their physicians.

From 1980 until today the method has spread out to different institutions, and now VAT is used to improve the life quality of persons suffering from a wide variety of complaints and handicaps. On the following pages I will try to describe how we have approached some defined conditions. Most results come from my own work, or the work of my assistants, but I also include results described in reports from professionals (nurses, doctors, physiotherapists, teachers in special education, psychologists and music therapists) in Norway and other countries.

The conditions treated by VAT differ considerably from the conditions, which traditionally are treated by Music Therapy and Music Medicine, as we know them today. As VAT has a direct physical effect on the whole human body - and virtually has an effect on each single cell in the organism, it is natural that we can observe effects which cannot be observed, or can only be traced, when we use auditively transferred musical stimuli.

    Emphysema pulmonary/COPD

There has been reported one case of healing of pulmonary emphysema in one person at a local hospital in Norway.

Procedure: 3 sessions per week for 6 months (combination of VAT and traditional palliative approach). In this case we only used Low frequencies - without music - with the following succession of frequencies. (Each frequency stage lasted for 5 minutes): 40 - 60 - 80 - 60 - 40 Hz.

After 6 months the patient was considered to be healed, and the continuation of therapy was terminated.

    Migraine and headache

Reduction of pain may appear after administration of VAT when we use relaxation music with a single 86 Hz frequency. "Floating" music without marked rhythm and melody is to be preferred.

If the headache comes from tense muscles in neck/shoulder, the therapist should choose spasmolytic frequencies in the 40, 60 or 68 Hz area.

It is important not to exaggerate the amplitude when headache or stress-related muscle tensions are to be treated. Guided imagery proceeding the VAT session may help the patient to relax in the desired way.

    Insomnia

Relaxing music (non-rhythmic) combined with frequencies in the 36 - 46 Hz area administered in the late afternoon, or as close to bed-time as possible often gives positive results. The patients fall asleep more readily, and the sleep lasts longer than usual. For patients with severe insomnia problems, we recommend that a sleep assessment protocol is set up and kept up to date by the patient - in order to identify the observable changes in sleep pattern.

Frequency of VAT sessions and how the continuation of the program should proceed must be worked out by the therapist in cooperation with the patient.

This is part 4 of an article which will be continued in upcoming newsletter issues.

    Zen Breakfast - Karunesh

    Zen Breakfast

    Karunesh

"A student came across a sage in the forest. "Let us share some tea," said the wise elder. And as they sat together, he began pouring. Between rapid-fire questions, the student began to notice that his cup had filled and yet the sage continued pouring, threatening to soak his robes. "Why do you keep pouring when my cup and saucer are full?" inquired the student. Came the reply, "Why keep asking questions when your head is full?"

Weaving exotic voices and cross-cultural elements through his sparkling tapestry, Karunesh finds that perfect balance point where classical, world, and healing music join, carefully coaxing love’s caress from every note.

Zen Breakfast is sacred music from far-off visionary places that touch the heart ever so close to home."

This CD is excellent for relaxation, meditation and massage. - Stephen
